William Fred Rutherford

William Fred Rutherford, better known as Freddy, age 76 of Grassy Creek, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023 at his home. Mr. Rutherford was born on February 14, 1946 in Ashe County to William Harding and Iona Claireen Handy Rutherford. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Timothy John Rutherford. Mr. Rutherford was a longtime merchant and auctioneer. He loved growing flowers and vegetables.

Mr. Rutherford is survived by: his wife: Wanda Testerman Rutherford; one son, Thomas Rutherford (Abby) of Roanoke, VA; two daughters, Kathleen Rutherford Shatley and Kimberly Rutherford Sidden (Tracy), both of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Shane Sidden, Seth Shatley, Zane Rutherford, Brad Rutherford, and Christopher Rutherford; two great-grandchildren, Christalyn Rutherford and Derek Sidden.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm prior to the funeral service on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
