Joe Harlan Spears

Joe Harlan Spears, age 63 of Lansing, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Mr. Spears was born on June 10, 1959 in Wilkes County to Rufus Plato Spears and Evalee Belvia Watson Spears. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son "Little" Joe Spears.

Mr. Spears loved going to church and made it his priority. He worked at Tyson for more than 40 years and enjoyed helping others. He loved the snow, going out to eat, and his dog "Pretty Eyes". He enjoyed gardening, being outdoors and in the mountains, vacations and trips with family, drag racing, and fishing. 

Mr. Spears is survived by:  his wife, Linda Carol Roten Spears; one son, Marty Spears of Hays; two stepsons, Jeffery Ham (Stacy) of Lansing and James Hamm (Kendra) of Crumpler; four brothers, Charles Spears (Sharon) of Purlear, Garland Spears of Millers Creek, Sam Spears (Jackie) and Jimmy Spears (Mary), both of Wilkesboro; two sisters, Marie Baldree (Mike) of Grifton and Darlene Griffith (Gary) of Ferguson; also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Ashe County Worship Center by Pastor Chuck Call and Rev. Randall Greene. Burial will follow in the Richardson Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Ashe County Worship Center.

The family will be meeting at the home at 1665 Deep Ford Rd., Lansing, NC 28643.
