Helen (Neaves) Asbury

March 3, 1935 ~ November 6, 2022 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Obituary

Helen Neaves Asbury, age 87 of West Jefferson, moved to Heaven, Sunday, November 6, 2022.  Mrs. Asbury was born March 3, 1935 in Ashe County to the late Arthur Coleman Neaves and Ola Mae Phipps Neaves. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Asbury Sr., daughter, Janet Gemes and husband Eddy, grandson, Edward Michael Lafferty III, great-grandson, Austin Johnson, brothers, Cody, Fred, Albert, Bill and Paul Neaves and sisters, Kay Lyall, Connie Barr and Hildridge Johnson. 

Helen loved the Lord and her family very much. She was an excellent mother and grandmother and always put others above herself.  She loved to laugh and play pranks on her family.  She was a hard worker and took pride in her work and in her appearance.  Helen loved listening to gospel, country and bluegrass music and enjoyed storytelling. 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Pastor Paul Schronce and Pastor Nathan Caparolie.  Burial will follow in the Howell Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 pm prior to the service at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel. 

Mrs. Asbury is survived by, daughters, Maggie Layne (Jim) of Statesville, Mae Lafferty and Coleen “Cookie” Stanley both of West Jefferson and Linda Stanley Hernandez (Tim), sons, Joe Ray Stanley (Brenda) of Arkansas, Jerry Wade Stanley (Pat) and John Thomas Asbury Jr. all of Taylorsville and Michael Asbury of Hickory, brother, John Neaves (Lil) of Jefferson, sisters, Janes Neaves of Statesville and Arita “Rey” Blevins of Laurel Springs and 9 grandchildren, Mark, Kathy, Missy, Jay, Ashlee (Nole) and daughter Sophia, Tonya, Brandon, Jed and Jenny.  Several great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Joel Inman and his staff in Taylorsville for the love and excellent care shown to Helen. 

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Howell Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o David Brooks, 2175 Bart Hurley Rd., Lansing, NC  28643.
