Ermal (Lyalls) Killen

Ermal  Lyalls Killen, age 94 of West Jefferson, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at her home. Mrs. Killen was born on August 2, 1928 in Ashe County to Wiley and Effie Mash Lyalls. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wayne Howard Killen, brother, Brice Lyalls, two sisters, Shirley Goodman and Alene Miller, and a great-granddaughter, Amarissa Hulin.

Ermal worked for Ashe County Schools in the cafeteria, working at Jefferson Elementary and later Mountain View Elementary until her retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, working in her flowers, and watching the birds. 

Mrs. Killen is survived by:  three daughters, Diana Poe (Doug) of West Jefferson, Debbie Hart of Todd, and Donna Hulin (Eddie) of West Jefferson; one brother, R.H. Lyalls of West Jefferson; seven grandchildren, April Poe, Amanda Barlow (Adam), Robbie Hart (Cassandra), Anthony Hulin (Brittany), Angela Eller (Jeremy), Mitchell Poe (Christy), and Priscilla Poe; eighteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would also like to mention and thank, special caregivers Sherry Stuart and Donna Farmer, for taking such excellent care of Mrs. Killen.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Lloyd Day and Rev. Tom Graybeal. Entombment will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm on Friday, February 3, 2023 prior to the funeral service at Ashelawn.
