Dortha "Dot" (Shatley) Nichols

Dortha Shatley Nichols, better known as Dot, age 80 of Jefferson, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at her home. Mrs. Nichols was born on September 9, 1940 in Lansing to Furd and Anna Wallace Shatley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Nichols, two brothers, Wiley Gene Shatley and Harlan Shatley, and a sister, Mary Lou Stokes.

Mrs. Nichols was a member of Friendship Baptist Church since 1958 and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a district governor of Lions Club International. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Nichols is survived by:  two sons, Dana Shatley and wife Joyce of Jefferson and Darron Shatley of Shelbyville, TN; two sisters, Glena Stoltz of Mount Airy and Barbara Shatley of Statesville; three grandchildren, Brandon Shatley, Carley Shatley, and Kelsey Shatley; two great-grandchildren, Easton Shatley and Emmlie Shatley; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at 3:00 pm at Friendship Baptist Church by Rev. Ken Jones.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to the family in care of Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, 3470 U.S. Highway 221 North, Jefferson, NC 28640.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Caldwell Hospice for their care and all other caregivers who helped Dot and to Pastor Ken Jones.
