Mrs. Virginia Carolyn Johnson Schurter, better known as “Carolyn,” age 74, died Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 3, 2026, at 2:00pm West Jefferson City Cemetery, with Speaker Darrell Thompson officiating.

Mrs. Schurter is survived by her daughter, Caroline Parker (Stanley) of Creston; her son, Ray Osborne of Hickory; a step-daughter, Tammy Roark (Ronnie); and a special friend, Delbert Ray Isaacs of Jefferson. She is also survived by three sisters: Wonda Rash of Lansing, Pat Johnson of Creston, and Kathy Johnson of Creston; a daughter-in-law, Denise Osborne, of Taylorsville.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Dezare Osborne, Danielle Osborne, Jasmine Parker, Tristan Parker, Andrew Parker, Ryan Roark, and Gracie Roark; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Schurter; three sisters, Bobbie Johnson, Joanne Osborne and Linda Hartzog; a brother, Jim Johnson.

She was born in Ashe County on April 21, 1951 to the late Glenn and Helen Eller Johnson. Carolyn will be remembered as a hardworking woman with a giving heart, devoted to her family. She especially loved spending time with her loved ones and enjoying sweets.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
