Velma Mae Brown Jones, age 77, of Crumpler, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Ashe Memorial Hospital. She was born June 27, 1948, to the late Virgle and Mollie Lorene Blevins Brown.
Velma lived a life centered on faith, family, and caring for others. A Certified Nursing Assistant by trade, she devoted more than 40 years to home health care, offering compassion, comfort, and kindness to countless individuals and families. Helping others was not simply her profession, it was her calling, and she carried that same servant’s heart into every part of her life.
A faithful member of Helton Valley Baptist Church in Whitetop, Virginia, Velma dearly loved her church and looked forward to worshiping there. She was a good Christian woman whose quiet strength and unwavering faith were evident in the way she lived and loved.
At home, Velma found joy in simple pleasures, sewing, caring for her animals, and spending time with those she loved most. She especially cherished her family. She shared 58 devoted years of marriage with her husband, Jack Jones, and it was often said you rarely saw one without the other. She treasured time spent with her daughter, Mollie, and her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Jones; her daughter, Mollie Brown of Crumpler; four brothers, Robert Brown of West Jefferson, Lacy Brown, Howard “H.D.” Brown, and Wayne Brown, all of Crumpler; three grandchildren, Nicholas Dale Neaves, Natalie Brooke Neaves and Brandon Levi Neaves; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Helton Valley Baptist Church in Whitetop, with Pastor David Lewis and Speaker Tracy Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Scott-Blevins Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, c/o Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, 3470 U.S. Highway 221 North, Jefferson, North Carolina 28640.
Velma's life was a quiet testimony of love, faith, and service to others.
