Steven Clay Houck, better known as Steve age 74 of West Jefferson passed away on Friday night, June 19, 2026 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. He was born on Saturday, August 25, 1951 to the late, Dean McKinley and Margaret Jean Stevens Houck. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Dean Houck, sisters, Linda Joyce Houck and Elizabeth Jeanie "Beth" Houck and his son, Eric McKinley Houck.
An avid golfer, Steve found great joy on the golf course, where friendships flourished and lifelong memories were made. For him, golf was not simply a pastime but a source of fellowship, relaxation, and happiness. He never turned down the chance to spend a day on the links and was always looking forward to the next round.
Above all, he treasured his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he delighted in every moment spent with them. He never missed an opportunity to share a laugh, offer guidance, or create lasting memories with those he loved most.
Throughout his career in law enforcement, Steve was known not only for his dedication to serving and protecting others, but also for his passion for mentoring and training the next generation of officers. His influence extended far beyond his badge, leaving a lasting impact on countless colleagues and friends.
Mr. Houck is survived by: His wife, Betty Maine Houck, two sons, Brian Houck (Brittany) of Jefferson and Lance Houck (Cara) of Wilmington, five grandchildren, Kennedy Houck and Ethan Houck of West Jefferson, Lukas Houck and Lilah Houck of Wilmington and Grant Houck of Jefferson; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 3:00pm at Bald Mountain Baptist Church by Rev. John Elledge. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00pm two hours prior to the service at the church.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Ebenezer Christian Children's Home; 1006 Byrd Ridge Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.
