Obituary

Stacy Lynn Flanagan, age 54 of Crumpler, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026 at his home. He was born in Ashe County, North Carolina on October 23, 1971 to the late Herbert Lee and Alice Faye Miller Flanagan. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Lenwood “Pete” Flanagan and Edward “Ed” Flanagan, grandmother, Chessie Miller Bower, grandson, Armond Young as well as his Siamese cat, Skippy. Stacy was a man whose life was deeply rooted in, family, service, and love for others.

For many years, Stacy worked in landscaping, a profession that perfectly suited his love for the outdoors. He especially enjoyed climbing trees and being surrounded by the outdoors. He was a hardworking man with a creative spirit, often spending his free time making woodcrafts, wreaths, and garland. Stacy also enjoyed cooking and baking, he especially loved seafood.

Above all else, Stacy treasured his family. No matter where his children were, he never failed to send them a “goodnight” text, a simple but lasting reminder of his love and devotion as a father. When his children were young, he would read the Bible with them each night and made daily devotion a priority throughout his life. His grandchildren brought him tremendous joy, and he loved nothing more than having his family gathered around him.

Stacy and Vickie served together through “Celebrate Recovery”, where they ministered to those struggling with addiction and life’s hardships. Stacy had a true heart for helping people and offering encouragement to anyone who may be struggling. He also dedicated years to youth ministry at Highlands Community Church.

Known for his quick wit and playful personality, Stacy loved joking with others and was always ready with a prank or a laugh. He enjoyed music, watching The Andy Griffith Show, playing the lottery, and dreaming about winning big so he could bless his family and others around him. His favorite time of year was the Fourth of July, when he delighted in fireworks and celebrating with loved ones. He also dearly loved his dog, Bella.

Mr. Flanagan is survived by his children, Bailey Young (Chris) of West Jefferson, Alexandria "Aly" Gartside of Jefferson, Dillon Flanagan (Drew) of Wilmington, Brooklyn Flanagan of Johnson City, TN and Autumn Flanagan of Jefferson, one sister, Robin Calhoun of West Jefferson and one brother, Michael "Tim" Flanagan (Pat) of Louisiana. Eight grandchildren, Gabe Young (Hannah), Felix Young, Cooper Young, Kinslee Gartside, Ember Flanagan, Adelina Rodriguez-Ramos, Canyon Flanagan and Soleia Rodriguez-Ramos and his good girl, Bella. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday at 12:00 noon at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Pastor Todd Brewer. The family will receive friends following the service at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Stacy's "Go Fund Me" page.

Stacy will be remembered as a giving man who was loved and respected within the community. His compassionate heart, servant spirit, and ability to make others smile left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He leaves behind a loving family, many dear friends, and a community that will forever cherish his memory. Though his presence will be greatly missed, the love, laughter, and kindness he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
