Mary Campbell Rash, age 84, of Creston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Ashe Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the warmth and presence of her loving family. She was born in Ashe County on Friday, May 29, 1942 to the late Coley H. and Clara Lucile Weaver Campbell. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Ronald, Michael, and Harold Campbell; her sisters, Janice Miller and Venice Sage; her son-in-law, Steve Gilley; and her two grandchildren, Joey and Timmy Gilley.

Mary’s life was deeply rooted in her beliefs.  She was a dedicated, beloved member of the Big Laurel Church of Christ in Christian Union. Going to church and fellowshipping with her congregation brought her profound joy and purpose. Mary found beauty in the simple, quiet moments of life. She cherished time spent sitting on her porch, looking out at her flowers. A true caretaker at heart, she loved to cook and delighted in having people over to her home.  Above all, Mary had a boundless, radiant capacity to love, and she shared that love freely with everyone she met.

She leaves behind her son, Robert Rash of Creston, and her daughter, Shelia Gilley of Warrensville; four sisters, Reva Hartness, Linda Galloway, and Barbara Gregory (and her husband, Larry), all of Winston Salem, and Naomi Campbell of Creston. Three grandchildren, Jessica, Jason, and Brittany (and her husband, John); eight great-grandchildren, Jayce, Shaylee, Kailey, Dustan, Lyric, Nariyah, LeeAnn, and Colin; four great-great-grandchildren, Raiden, Levi, Zrya, and Nalani; as well as several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who felt like family.

Funeral services to celebrate Mary's life will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Jason Miller, Rev. Lloyd Day, and Rev. Darrell Graybeal. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the service. Following the service, Mary will be laid to rest in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to extend their deepest, heartfelt thanks to the local first responders for their prompt attention and care, as well as to the health care workers, church members, and dear friends who have stepped up to help, support, and pray for them during this difficult time. 

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Big Laurel Church of Christ in Christian Union.
