Mary Francis Sayre

Mary was born July 23, 1944 and after a wonderful life passed away peacefully at the AVOW Hospice in Naples, FL on January 13, 2026. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Stevan Sayre. She grew up in up in the mountains of NC, received her degree from Appalachian State University and an MS from UNC Greensboro.

After working a couple of years teaching Textiles and Clothing at the University of Delaware she spent the rest of her career with the Maryland Public Schools. Along the way she earned a Masters of Education  from Loyola University of Maryland and her final position was as a Reading Teacher in Annapolis, MD.

She met and married her husband when they both worked at the University of Delaware.  After living in Newark for 10 years they moved to Annapolis and following retirement relocated to Marco Island, FL. She spent the next 25 years as a snowbird between Marco and Canandaigua Lake, NY. She enjoyed sewing, going for walks, playing tennis and watching her favorite NC basketball teams.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 11:00 at West Jefferson City Cemetery.
