Obituary

Marian Louise Proffitt Osborne age 91 of Creston the Little Laurel Community passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Watauga Medical Center. She was born in Johnson County, TN to the late Fred and Gladys Simcox Proffitt. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by, her husband, Delmar William Osborne, brother, Daniel Proffitt, half brother, Jones Leonard Proffitt, and her sister Grace Davis.

Marian Osborne was lovingly raised by her mother, Gladys, and her maternal grandparents, Stacy and Villa Simcox, who helped shape the strong faith and caring spirit she carried throughout her life. Faith was the foundation of Marian’s heart. She was a devoted member of Hammons Chapel Christian Church and could often be found worshipping with friends at Little Laurel Church, Big Laurel Mennonite Church, or Pleasant Hill Church. Marian dearly loved the Lord and cherished her quiet mornings spent reading her Bible.

She was active in her community through the Riverview Community Center until her health no longer allowed, where she especially enjoyed Bible studies, fellowship as a member of the Riverview Red Hats and working with the foster grandparent program. Marian found great joy in simple pleasures—soaking up the sunshine on her front porch with a bottle of her favorite sweet tea, welcoming visits from her nieces, nephews, and cousins, and sharing laughter and memories. Always adventurous and willing to try anything, she especially treasured annual family vacations.

Marian was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her new great-grand baby and had already prepared a new rocking chair with love and excitement. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her neighbors and friends who faithfully helped and checked on Marian, especially during Hurricane Helene. Her gentle faith, loving presence, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 7:00 pm at Hammons Chapel Christian Church by Pastor Josh Giddings. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:00 pm prior to the service at Hammons Chapel. A private burial will be at a later date in the Osborne Cemetery
