Margaret Julia Neal age 78 of Newland formerly of Jefferson passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Avery County Group Home. She was born in Ashe County on June 24, 1947 to the late Joseph Franklin and Ruth Frances Robinson. Including her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Robinson Neal and sister, Sarah Gordon Neal.

Margaret had a deep affection for her cat, Sweetie, often found with the feline curled up peacefully on her lap. She relished her outings to the nail salon and enjoyed dining out, where she would don her favorite large hats and anklets, adding a touch of flair to her attire. However, nothing brought her more joy than indulging in her beloved fudge candy paired with a refreshing Pepsi.

Margaret's warmth and spirit will be fondly remembered by her friends and family at the Avery County Group Home, where she had lived since August 31, 1993. Those who cherished her memory include close friends such as Brenda, Charlie, Marilyn, Neal, and Patty, alongside dedicated staff members like Natalie Buchanan, Stephanie Roark, Heather Swicegood, Billie Jean McGuire, Julianna Kopczynski, Elaine Crane, Angie Rupard, and Hannah Decubellis. Additional caregivers, including Renee Ingram, Aaiden Walker, Carlee Clark, Marissa Crawford, Susie Smith and the team at Compassionate Heart, as well as her many friends at Yellow Mountain Enterprises, also played significant roles in her life. The family and friends express their gratitude to the team at Hospice and Home Care of the Blue Ridge, particularly highlighting the compassionate care provided by Jeanne Hughes, Margaret's long-time caregiver for almost two years.

She will be remembered for her cheerful demeanor, often heard exclaiming, "Oh Good!"

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at 4:00 pm at Pineola Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the Jefferson City Cemetery.

Miss Neal survived by: her brother, Frank Harris Neal of West Jefferson; also surviving are several cousins.
