Kenneth Terry
Pruitt
Jun 14, 1945 — Aug 20, 2026
Crumpler
Kenneth Terry Pruitt, better known as “Terry” age 81 of Crumpler passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at his home, exactly one year to the day after the passing of his beloved wife, Dorsey, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and devotion.
He was born on June 14, 1945, in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Ares and Ethel Blevins Pruitt. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorsey Arnold Pruitt, three brothers, Harvy Pruitt, Larry Pruitt and Darius Pruitt.
Kenneth lived a life defined by hard work, service, and unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his Lord. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and faithful friend whose quiet strength and generous spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Kenneth believed there was no substitute for an honest day's work. Whether he was in his shop repairing cars, tractors, or whatever needed fixing, he found satisfaction in working with his hands and helping others. If someone needed a hand, Kenneth was always willing to lend one, never expecting anything in return.
One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family. He especially cherished his weekly breakfasts at the Old Riverside Store with his son and grandson, Jacob. Those simple mornings together became treasured traditions filled with conversation, laughter, and memories that will be carried forward for generations.
An outdoorsman at heart, Kenneth loved God's creation. He found peace in the mountains and woods, where one of his favorite pastimes was hunting ginseng. Whether in the shop or the forest, he was happiest when he was busy, surrounded by the people and places he loved.
Kenneth proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, the United States Army, and then the National Guard. His years of military service reflected his deep sense of duty, honor, and commitment to serving others.
Mr. Pruitt is survived by his children, Kenneth (Christie) Pruitt of West Jefferson, Keith Pruitt of Mtn. City, TN, Benny (Brenda) Phipps of Greensboro, Randy Phipps of Warrensville, Dennis (Leslya) Phipps of Wilkesboro, Becky Phipps (Pete) Erdner of Greensboro, Pam Phipps (Jeff) Parsons of Jefferson, eleven grandchildren including Jacob (Morgan) Pruitt, Carson Pruitt and Samantha Pruitt; siblings, Olan (Sue) Pruitt of Taylorsville, Netta Funderburk of Concord, Cabel “Cazel” (Brenda) Pruitt of Lansing, Bamba Pruitt of Lansing, Jannie (Jerry) Walker of Glendale Springs, and his fur baby, Carly. Several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
