Kay Francis Roten, a devoted woman of Christ and a steady source of love and strength, passed away surrounded by family she cherished on Monday, August 3, 2026. She was born on May 7, 1949 in Whitetop, VA to the late Lonnie Ray and Inus Farmer Wyatt. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry Allen Roten, two sisters, Rebecca Ann Jones and Brenda Taylor as well as two grandchildren, Harley Marie Taylor and Justin Todd Canter, and great-grandchildren, Bentley Ray Taylor.

Kay lived a life defined by faith, resilience and an unwavering devotion to those she loved. Kay found joy in the simple beauty of the world. She loved watching birds, listening to gospel music each morning and spending time with her grandbabies who were the light of her life. Her sense of humor never faded, even as she faced many health challenges with courage and grace. She was a fighter in every sense, meeting each day with gratitude and a warm spirit that lifted those around her.

For 60 remarkable years Kay was married to the love of her life, Jerry. Their marriage was a testament to commitment, partnership and enduring affection. Together they built a family rooted in faith, laughter and a deep connection.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Roten, one daughter, Regina Dugger (Rodney) of Crumpler, one son, Dennis Roten (Myranda) of West Jefferson and one sister, Judith Simcox of West Jefferson. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Steve Ashley and Minister David Lyalls. Burial will follow in the Richardson-Roten Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon one hour prior to the service at Ashelawn.
