June Gilley better known as Polly age 77, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Ashe County on Wednesday, June 23, 1948 to the late Barnie Bruce Ham and Buyrl June Baldwin Ham. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by, granddaughter, Ashley Perry, son-in-law, Brady Cruey and sister, Pam Day.
A faithful member of Temple Baptist Church, Polly found great joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others through her kindness and caring spirit. She cherished every moment spent with her family and took great pride in being the heart of her home. Whether she was preparing a meal for those she loved, sitting around the table enjoying a game of rook, or sharing stories and laughter with her children and grandchildren, Polly made everyone feel welcomed and loved.
She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially reading, writing in her journal, and spending quiet moments reflecting on the blessings God had given her. Polly had a gentle and compassionate nature that touched the lives of all who knew her. Her faith, strength, and loving example will continue to live on through her family and friends.
The family would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Medi Home Hospice for the love, compassion, and excellent care shown to Polly during her illness.
Mrs. Gilley is survived by: her husband, Jerry Gilley, daughters, Debbie Perry (Kenny) of Glendale Springs, Missy Cruey of Crumpler, son, Joe Gilley (Belinda) of Glendale Springs, grandchildren, Josh Cruey (Alicia), Jacob Cruey (Saylar), Matt Gilley (Elisha), Abby Gilley, great-grandchildren, Solomon and Magnolia Cruey; sister, Trisha Worley (Robert) of Jefferson, special uncle, Billy Joe Perry (Sally); several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. R.D. Watson, Rev. Lloyd Day, and Rev. J.D. Walton. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm prior to the service at Ashelawn.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Temple Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Polly was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose life was centered around her faith and the people she loved most.
