Obituary

Judy Mae Darnell, age 64, of Jefferson, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. She was born in Ashe County, North Carolina on August 18, 1961 to the late Robert Lee and Virginia Mearleen Eldreth Darnell. In addition to her parents, Judy was also preceded in death by a siter, Ruth Darnell.

She was a woman of strong faith who loved attending church and spending time with her family and friends. Judy found joy in life's simple moments, especially sitting around the kitchen table with a cup of coffee, sharing stories, laughter, and conversation with those she loved.

She devoted much of her life to caring for her nieces and nephews, loving them as her own and always putting the needs of others before herself. Judy had a compassionate heart and was known as someone who would always take the time to listen. Whether someone needed advice, encouragement, or simply a friend to talk to, she was always there with an open heart and a helping hand.

Those who knew Judy will remember her for her kindness, her gentle spirit, her willingness to help others, and the love she shared so freely with everyone she met. Her life was a testament to quiet service, faithful devotion, and genuine compassion.

Ms. Darnell is survived by three brothers, Hank Darnell and Wayne Darnell both of Lansing and Billy Darnell of Laurel Springs, six sisters, Virginia Roland and Bobbie Darnell both of Jefferson, Brenda Barker and Phyllis Dickens both of West Jefferson, Shelia Roland of Jefferson and Belinda Hawkins of TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday August, 22, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Minister David Lyalls and Rev. Guy Testerman. Burial will follow in the Eller Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm prior to the service at Ashelawn.

Memorials may be made to the family in care of Ashelawn Memorial Chapel; 3470 US Highway 221 N. Jefferson, NC 28640.

She leaves behind a lifetime of treasured memories that will continue to be cherished by her family and many friends. Although her presence will be deeply missed, the love, kindness, and faith she shared will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
