JR Roten

JR Roten, age 79, of West Jefferson, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Atrium Health-Winston Salem. He was born May 14, 1946, in Ashe County to Reece and Ruby Richardson Roten. JR was a long-time member of Mount Paddy Church. He was a good person and was a great influence on many people. He enjoyed listening to Bill and Gloria Gaither Gospel and was a diehard Tarheel Fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Claudine Turnmire; granddaughter, Mandy Russell; and great grandson, Braxton Walker.

Surviving are his spouse, Bracel Roten of West Jefferson; son, Mike Roten and spouse Charlie of Jefferson; granddaughter, Brittany Walker and spouse Wayne of West Jefferson; grandson, Andrew Russell and spouse Kayleigh of Jefferson; great grandchildren, Oakley, Laiken and Tucker all of Jefferson; sister, Willa Dean Calhoun of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Mount Paddy Church with Pastor Tim Roten and Jason Roten officiating. The family will receive friends at Mount Paddy Church from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Paddy Church, 822 NC-88, Jefferson, NC 28640. Miller Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
