John Thomas Asbury, Jr.

Mr. John Thomas Asbury, Jr., age 55, of Taylorsville, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Watauga Medical Center. Born in Chester County, PA, on August 27, 1970, he was the son of the late John Thomas Asbury, Sr. and Helen Doris Neaves Asbury. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janet.

John was a man of many passions and a vivid imagination. He was a devoted lover of animals, especially his cherished dogs and cats. A true enthusiast of science fiction and fantasy, he found great joy in the worlds of Star Trek, Star Wars, and Dungeons & Dragons. He was an avid reader who loved the outdoors and felt a deep sense of peace having finally returned to live in the mountains he loved so much.

John is survived by his son, Michael Asbury of Hickory; the mother of his son, Amanda Nicole Ramsey Asbury of Hickory; and three sisters, Maggie Layne and husband Jim of Statesville, Mae Lafferty of West Jefferson, and Coleen Stanley, better known as "Cookie," also of West Jefferson; honorary sister, Linda Stanley Hernandez, two brothers, Joe Ray Stanley (Brenda), of Arkansas, Jerry Wade Stanley of Taylorsville; several nieces and nephews also survive to cherish his memory.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Howell Hill Cemetery, 1590 Silas Creek Road, Lansing, NC 28643.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the family, c/o Badger Funeral Home, 3470 US Hwy 221 North, Jefferson, NC 28640.
