Joe Ray Turner, 79, of West Jefferson, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 29, 2026. Born on September 6, 1946, in Ashe County, Joe was the beloved son of the late Glen and Hattie McNeil Turner. 

A man known for his dedication and willingness to help others, Joe was a hard worker who spent his career in the energy and service industries. He worked for 25 years at Ashe Oil Company, 15 years for the County of Ashe, and dedicated 15 years to J & G Burner Service, in addition to his time with Segraves/Colvard Oil. Joe was good to his customers and known by many in the community for his generous spirit, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Joe's life was centered around his faith and his family. He was a dedicated member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. 

He cherished his wife, Geraldine, and their 35 years together. Above all, he loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his loyal dog.

He is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine Roland Turner; his sons, Freddy Turner and wife Pamela, and Charles Turner; his daughter, Shelby Dickens; and his son-in-law, Junior Blevins. His legacy also lives on through his grandchildren, Josh Jarvis and wife Kenzie, Martisha Turner and fiancé Michael, Emmie Pennington, and Danielle Pennington, 17 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his daughters, Amy Blevins and Kathy Turner; and his siblings, brothers Donald and Von, and sisters Pauline, Lessie, Bobbie, and Janie.
