Mrs. Joanne Evelyn Beckett York, age 89, of Jefferson, North Carolina, passed away Monday night, May 18, 2026, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 10, 1936, Joanne was the daughter of the late Clarence Beckett and Evelyn Elizabeth Wissell Beckett.

Joanne dedicated her life to the care of others, charting a remarkable career in healthcare that spanned over 55 years. She worked in Orthopedics in Charlotte for many years before relocating to Ashe County. There, she continued her passionate service at Ashe Memorial Hospital until she lost her sight. Her resilience, work ethic, and compassionate heart left a lasting impact on countless patients and colleagues throughout her lifetime.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 2008, and her son, George Beckett, in 1976.

She is survived by her devoted caregiver and dear friend, Cindy Bower of Jefferson, who provided comfort and support in her later years.

In accordance with Mrs. York’s explicit wishes, there will be no formal services. Her legacy of lifelong service to the health and well-being of her community will be remembered fondly by those who knew her.
