Joanne Kemp

Joanne Kemp age 73, passed away Monday evening April 27, 2026, at Wilkes Medical Center. Born in Ohio on July 11, 1952, she was the daughter of the late James "Jim" Herman Kemp and June Roten Kemp. Joanne worked at the Ashe County public library for many years and retired from there. She was always eager to volunteer and help out when needed. Joanne volunteered at Medi Home Hospice, she also knitted booties for NICU patients, sent cards to prisoners, and made decorations for hospital patients food trays; she loved her crafts. Every year she sent out almost 100 Valentines's Day cards that she handmade for her family and friends. She served the Lord by being a faithful member at Mt. Paddy Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was a great friend to everyone she met.

Joanne is survived by one brother Jerry Kemp and wife Geneva of West Jefferson. She is also survived by two nephews Joe Kemp (Jennifer) of Boone, NC and Jerry Kemp (Crystal) of West Jefferson. She is also survived by one niece Jennifer Hess (Dusty) of West Jefferson along with her great nephews and great nieces.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Mt. Paddy Church with Rev. Tim Roten and Rev. Jason Roten officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 at Mt. Paddy, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers , donations can be made Medi Home Hospice, P.O. Box 421, Jefferson, NC 28640 or Lewis Cemetery in c/o Jerry Kemp 724 Kemp Lewis Circle, West Jefferson, NC 28694. The family requests no food.
