Mr. Frank Gibson Sheets, age 82, of Jefferson, passed away Saturday night, September 12, 2026, at his home.

He was born in Ashe County on May 6, 1944, to the late Walter Gwyn and Nettie Rae Burkett Sheets. Frank was the owner and operator of Sheets Grocery, where his carefree personality and trademark laughter meant he spoke with every customer who walked through the door. His favorite drink was Dr. Pepper—faithfully backed by his belief in a doctor who once told him there was nothing in it that would hurt you.  If he got tired while working in his garden, he was famous for simply laying on the ground to take himself a nap. An avid Carolina sports fan, Frank loved coaching Little League, hunting, and fishing. Above all, his grandchildren were one of the absolute greatest loves of his life; he cherished every moment spent watching them play sports and taking them on hunting and fishing trips. Frank was also a devoted member of Phoenix Baptist Church.

Frank is survived by: his devoted wife of 59 years, Barbara Ann Houck Sheets, a son Mark Sheets and wife, Kelly, of Jefferson; a daughter Monica Eller and husband Damon, of Jefferson; two sisters: Wileen Fortner of Jefferson; Beverly Waddell and husband Bill, of West Jefferson; four grandchildren: Devan Sheets and fiancée Anna Wagoner, Brooklyn Sheets, Brodey Eller, and Bru Eller; several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by four brothers: Willard, Donald, Richard, and Douglas Sheets; two sisters: Margarite Bare and Raychella Bennett.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Phoenix Baptist Church, with Rev. Nate Wood and Rev. Chris Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00pm on Saturday; two hours prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers: Jeff Sheets, Tim Sheets, Devan Sheets, Brodey Eller, Bru Eller, James Witherspoon, Josh Witherspoon, and Jeff Houck.
