Obituary

Doris Ann Trivette Dillard, age 90, of Jefferson, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Margate Health and Rehab Center. She was born on Sunday, September 13, 1936 to the late Fred Oscar and Carrie Ann Moretz Trivette. Including her parents she was preceded in death by, three sisters, Ina Bare, Lavonne Greene, Shirley Roop, her daughter, Karen Kay Cummings, and grandsons, Michael Eldreth, Joshua Dillard and her husband Clifton Clay Dillard.

A woman of deep faith and quiet strength, Doris lived her life as a true Proverbs 31 wife—devoted, industrious, and unfailingly faithful. For over 60 years, she walked hand in hand with her beloved husband, Clifton, building a home anchored in love and tradition. She retired after many years of dedicated service at Sprague Electric, but her heart was always centered on her family and the simple beauties of the world around her. An excellent canner and a naturally thrifty soul, Doris knew how to make the most of every blessing. She was a lifelong friend of nature who found endless joy in tending to her vibrant flowers and watching wildlife from her home. Among all of nature's wonders, she held a special fondness for bird watching, always keeping a watchful eye for the bright red visit of a cardinal. She was a faithful and long-time member of Orion Baptist Church.

She is survived by her five loving children: three sons, Walter Dillard (Karen), Robert Dillard (Lena), and Randal Dillard (Susie), and two daughters, Wanda Dillard and Sandra Dillard, all of Jefferson. She also leaves behind three brothers, Gwynn Trivette of West Jefferson, James Trivette of Fleetwood, and Wayne Trivette of Lenoir; 38 cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Orion Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Larry Powers, Rev. Lawrence Goodman, and Rev. Johnny Huffman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the church prior to the service.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Margate Health and Rehab Center for their compassionate care, with a special thank you to her dear roommate and caregiver, Johanna Gorham, for her profound friendship and steadfast care.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the family, c/o Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, 3470 US Hwy 221 North, Jefferson, NC 28640.
