Donald Wayne Sloan, age 76 of West Jefferson, NC; passed away Friday, September 11, 2026 at his residence.

Donald was born October 4th, 1949 in Fort Worth, TX to the late Herman Ruth Sloan and Reva Oneta Duran Sloan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Ziebell.

Donald was a communication consultant for many years and later became the founder of Ashe County Habitat for Humanity, dedicating his time and talents to helping others and strengthening his community.

An avid reader, Donald especially enjoyed The Lord of the Rings. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved quoting funny movies, often bringing laughter and lightheartedness to those around him.
Donald also enjoyed hiking, long-distance running, and videography. He found joy in the outdoors, the challenge of a long run, the creativity of capturing moments on video, and the simple pleasure of a good book.

He will be remembered not only for the work he accomplished, but for his humor, curiosity, generosity, and the many lives he touched along the way.

Survivors include his wife Linda Dianne Kelley Sloan of the home; two sons: Ryan Sloan (Leah) of Oakland, CA and Andy Sloan (Tessie) of Midlothian, TX; a brother Larry Sloan of Heartland, TX; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends also survive.
