Clarence Lewis, age 78 of Warrensville, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center. Born in Ashe County on May 13, 1948, to the late Odell and Cora Bell Riddle Lewis, Clarence built a life rooted deeply in his mountain community, his faith, and the simple pleasures he held dear.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years of marriage, Betty Lou Maye Lewis; sisters, Linnie, Gertrude, and Linda Gale, brother, Roger.

A faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Clarence served with dedication as a deacon and found great joy in gathering with his church family each week. His faith was woven into every part of his life, especially his music. An accomplished musician, he loved playing bluegrass and gospel tunes, picking the guitar and mastering the banjo to bring joy and praise to those around him. Outdoorsman at heart, he spent many contented hours hunting and fishing in the hills he called home. Clarence was also a man of steady dedication and hard work, retiring after forty proud years as a drill operator for Cardinal Stone.

He is survived by his son, Brad Lewis and wife Amy of West Jefferson; two sisters, Ina Jean Ashley of West Jefferson and Louise Byrd of Valdese; two brothers, Bill Lewis of West Jefferson, and Bob Lewis and wife Linda of Jefferson; along with several beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Russell Sheets, Rev. Jack Lewis, and Rev. Tommy Dollar. Burial will follow in the May Cemetery with officiating by Rev. Robert Earnhardt. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM prior to the service on Thursday at Ashelawn.
