Obituary

Bobbie Kay Brinegar Miller, age 89, of Lansing, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Friday, November 6, 2026. Born in Ashe County on August 20, 1937, to the late William "Bill" and Mattie Cleo Stuart Brinegar, Bobbie’s life was deeply rooted in the mountains, her family, and her faith. She has now been joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, Austin "Coot" Miller; her brothers, Leonard, Vaughn, Joe, Bill, and Pete Brinegar; and her sisters, Ruth Powers and Norma Jones, all of whom preceded her in death.

Bobbie was a woman of remarkable dedication and work ethic. She spent an impressive 54 years in the workforce. Lastly working at B&B Swimwear, finally retiring at the age of 74. Beyond her long career, she was a true caretaker at heart. Her hands were rarely still, as she found great joy in tending to her garden and canning the harvests she grew. Bobbie had a tender heart for all creatures, finding deep companionship in her cats and dogs, and holding a very special place in her heart for her cow named Buffy. She lived her life guided by quiet faith and was a devoted member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Above all else, Bobbie loved her family. Her legacy of warmth and dedication lives on in those who survive her: her two sons, Tony Miller (Tina) of Cary, and Jeff Miller (Joan Blevins) of Warrensville; her daughter, Angela Miller (Steve Hare) of Swansboro; her cherished grandson, Justin Miller; and her three great-grandchildren, Caroline, Autumn, and Dawson. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and friends who will hold her memory dear.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Bobbie’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Keith Wagoner and Speaker Bill Powers. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the chapel prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Bobbie’s honor to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 515 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
