Betty Jane Roop Bennett, age 86 of West Jefferson passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026 at her home. She was born on August 21, 1939 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Elihue and Grace Juanita Roop. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman Lee Bennett, one brother, Gary Roop, one sister, Patricia Roop and grandson, Tyler Cornett. Betty was a woman of many talents and simple joys, whose kindness and creativity touched all who knew her.

She was an extremely gifted quilter who lovingly stitched not only blankets, but treasured memories for her family and friends. Betty also found happiness in the beauty of flowers and enjoyed tending to her gardens, where her hard work and care could always be seen in every bloom. She also enjoyed canning the fruits of her labor, preserving both food and traditions that she gladly shared with those she loved.

Betty had a creative spirit and enjoyed painting and crafting, always finding joy in making something beautiful with her hands. She also loved shopping trips and spending time with family and friends along the way. In quieter moments, she could often be found enjoying her favorite westerns, especially Gunsmoke.

Above all, Betty will be remembered for her loving heart, her warm home, and the care she showed to everyone around her. Her legacy of love and creativity will continue to live on in the many lives she touched. While her presence here will be greatly missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now resting peacefully with her Lord and Savior.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by daughter, Kathy Howell, sons, Terry Bennett (Kathy) and Kenneth Bennett all of West Jefferson and daughter, Kimberly Bennett of Boone, four sisters, Maxine Roop of West Jefferson, Ethel Mae McCoy of Lansing, Letha Day (Rev. Lloyd Day) of West Jefferson and Mary Graybeal (Rev. Tom Graybeal) of Warrensville, two brothers, Cecil Roop (Linda) of Mouth of Wilson, VA and Charlie Roop of Lansing. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Adam Howell (Tammy), Rianna Barker (Keith), Jessica Minerva, Dusty Bennett, Trevor Bennett (Brandi), Kole Denny and Keelan Denny as well as 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 12:00pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Tom Graybeal and Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial will follow in the Calhoun Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 12:00pm one hour prior to the service at Ashelawn.
