Obituary

Barbara Ann Conrad Pinnix, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Brookridge Retirement Home in Winston-Salem, NC.

Barbara was born on November 17, 1937 to the late Weldon and Gladys Conrad of Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death, and is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 64 years, Dave Pinnix.

Barbara met her “knight in shining armor”, Dave in 1956 while he was horseback riding. They quickly fell in love and were married on December 14,1957. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love, and raised their three children David, Wendy, and John.

Barbara was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A woman who was always humble and kind. She was a beacon of love to the hundreds of children who grew up at Parkway Elementary School (PES) in Deep Gap, NC. Her warmth and gentle spirit made her a special part of the PES family until her retirement.

Above all, Barbara loved the Lord with all of her heart. Her faith was woven throughout her life and was reflected in the way she loved and cared for others. While those who loved her deeply morn her passing, we are comforted in knowing her faith is now sight and her hope is fulfilled. She is home with her Savior.

Barbara is survived by her three children, David Carlton Pinnix (Tammy), Wendy Pinnix- Boyd, and John Carr Pinnix (Janet). Her grandchildren Jodi Pinnix-Day (Brandon), Brooke Boyd Nooe (Eric), Nathan Pinnix (Jordan), Brianna Boyd Clank (Winston), Caleb Pinnix (Pam), Aaron Pinnix, Joshua Pinnix (Kyla), Hannah Pinnix-Williams (James), Sarah Pinnix, Rebekah Pinnix and Joel Pinnix. And her great-grandchildren, Ethan Day, Bailey Day, Payton Day, Millie Nooe, Dylan Pinnix, Kaitlyn Pinnix, Kimberly Pinnix, Caleb Justice “CJ” Pinnix and Sylvie Pinnix.

She is also survived by her sisters, Judy Conrad and Loretta Whitt (Monroe), her nephews Bryan Rutledge (Donna) and Joseph Sloan and many other family members and friends who loved her dearly.

The family would also like to express their heartfelt love and gratitude to Barbara’s caregiver, Charlotte Goff, who became much more than a caregiver. Through her loving and devoted care, Charlotte became a cherished friend and trusted confidant to Barbara and a special part of her life.

The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Friday, September 4, 2026 at Highland View Baptist Church, 190 Chestnut Mountain Rd, Deep Gap, NC 28618. Funeral Services will begin at 3:00 pm and will be officiated by Rev. Herb Parunak and John Pinnix. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Barbara loved flowers and was an avid gardener. She spent her life quietly planting seeds in her family, in her friends, in the PES children she cared for, in her friendships and most importantly in her faith. The beauty that has grown from these seeds will continue to bloom in the people she leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in her memory to Remote Alaska Missions, c/o Freedom Baptist Church, PO Box 159, Rural Hall, NC 27045.
