Barbara Elaine Edwards
Lawrence
January 22, 1941 – May 23, 2026
Barbara Elaine Edwards age 85, of West Jefferson, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Watauga County on January 22, 1941 to the late Swanson and Mable Wilson Edwards. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Glenn Lawrence, and infant son, Eric and a sister, Sonya Willard.
On March 6th, 1961, she married the love of her life, Ronnie Lawrence. They lived 57 happy fruitful years together until Ronnie’s death in 2020.
They had two daughters, Melonie Formwalt and Lorrie Mash and husband, Tom.
She was a devoted grandmother with five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who were blessed to have her in their lives. Micaela Formwalt and daughters, Piper Glenn, Catalina Mendoza, Dr. Keaton Mash and wife Cori and children, Finn, Eleanor and Emeline, Kinsey Nance and husband Jacob, and children, Colter, Brooks, Elaina and Griffin Nance, Tanner Formwalt and wife Lindsay, Kellan Mash and wife Bridget and children, Hank, Heidi and Holston Mash.
She is also survived by one sister, Melba Criss and husband, Ron and two brothers, Jim Worley and wife, Karen and Ronnie Worley and wife, Lillian as well as several nieces and nephews.
Barbara’s life was committed to her faith, her family, and a strong work ethic. She was an active member at Bald Mountain Church for over 50 years. She faithfully attended until her last days on earth and adored her church family.
She worked for many years at Gate’s rubber company and made many lifelong friends there.
She took great joy in her children and grandchildren. She and Ronnie attended many of their grandchildren’s sporting and other events. They were their grandkids and great grandkids greatest fans. Their home was a place of belonging; many special memories, laughter, and chaos.
She was always ready to take a home cooked meal to anyone who would benefit from it. Her specialties were green beans (which no one can replicate) and her desert cakes.
She and Ronnie worked endlessly and took great pride and having a huge garden, and sharing their bounty from their labor with others. They never grew just enough for themselves…
Barbara will especially be remembered for her love of life. She was social, outgoing, and always ready to gather and celebrate. She was always ready to go anywhere.
She was always the life of the party and loved being around people. She lived her life to the fullest until Jesus called her home. She will be missed, but the best part of her will live on in the family and friends she leaves behind. The family would specifically like to thank Gloria Burchett and Sandra Church who were her caregivers for several years.
They lovingly and faithfully cared for her through the hard times.
A private family service is planned.
Anyone who would like to pay respects can visit at her home 252 Rocky Gap Rd.
Memorials may be made to Medi-Home Hospice; PO Box 421, Jefferson, NC 28640.
