Rachel Colvard Sheets

Mrs. Rachel Colvard Sheets, age 97, of Lerona, West Virginia died on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Charleston Area Medical Center in West Virginia. Mrs. Sheets was born on May 6, 1918 in the Nathans Creek community of Ashe County, to Freel and Addie Bare Colvard. Mrs. Sheets was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, William Peyton Colvard, F.L. Colvard, John R. Colvard, sister, Jennie Colvard Dancy, half brother Ben Colvard, half sisters Dema Colvard Bledsoe, Myrtle (Mertie) Colvard Gambill, Eunice Colvard Long, and husband, Gene C. Sheets. Mrs. Sheets was an avid reader and also enjoyed history, painting, traveling, cooking, crocheting, and all sports but especially basketball. She was very creative and had an unlimited curiosity about life. Rachel always acted and felt young at heart and was known for her wonderful sense of humor. She will be dearly missed.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens, led by her grandson Dean Sheets. Pallbearers are Danny Crews, Robert Sheets, Stephen Sheets, Michael Woolever, Bill Dancy, and Sam Whittington.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Sheets is survived by: son, William "Bill" Sheets and wife Carolyn of Hickory, daughter, Dorothy Woolever and husband Jerry of Lakewood Ranch, FL, grandchildren, Robert Sheets, Dean Sheets, Michael Woolever, Rachel Woolever, beloved nieces, Iva Hilliard, Jean Hartzog, Mary Bare, Miriam Stratton, Billie Browning, and extended family Danny and DoraLee Crews. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be appreciated, or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
