Lena Dare Hart Hicks

Lena Dare Hart Hicks age 70, of Lansing died on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center of complications from leukemia. She was born on December 3, 1946 in Jefferson, NC to Vernie and Dare Welch Hart. After graduating from Lansing High School, attending Appalachian State, and then completing an associate's degree at Bristol Business College she met her husband, D. Wesley Hicks and was married August 7, 1976. After their marriage, they briefly moved to Tazewell County, VA before returning to Lansing and giving birth to their son, Benjamin. She worked for many years in the health care industry as an insurance coder and was known to many through her work at Ashe Memorial Hospital, especially as the office manager for Tammy L. Thore, MD. She deeply loved her flowers and garden, serving as a Sunday school teacher at Meadowview Mennonite Church, spending time with her dog, Thunder, and being a wife and mother.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Larry Shepherd, and Rev. Dan Hess. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Lena is survived by her husband Wesley, son Benjamin and daughter-in-law Alicia, as well as many close cousins, family, friends and neighbors who will miss her dearly.
