Lena Poe Cox

Mrs. Lena Poe Cox, age 89 of Laurel Springs, NC died on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at her daughter's home. Mrs. Cox was born on August 13, 1925 in Ashe County, NC to William and Gussie Hunt Poe. Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter Reeves Cox, daughter, Carolyn Wood, infant daughter, Loretta Grace Cox, infant son, Robert Dale Cox, brother, Earl Poe, brother, Gaither Poe, sister, Ethel Davis, sister, Kathleen LaPrad. She enjoyed quilting, working in her garden and cooking for her family.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Chris Cox, Rev. Everette Little, and Rev. Jimel James. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. There will be a meal following the service at the New Hope Baptist Church fellowship hall.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Cox is survived by: Son, Richard Cox of Laurel Springs, Daughter, Barbara Leonard of Statesville, Daughter, Darlene James of Winston Salem, Daughter, Marlene Weaver of Laurel Springs, her caregiver, Kathy Crouse; also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
