Johnny Randel Shumate

Mr. Johnny Randel Shumate age 72, of Crumpler, died on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Watauga Medical Center after brief bout with lung cancer. Mr. Shumate was born on November 13, 1944 in Jefferson to Kyle and Lizzy Phipps Shumate. Mr. Shumate was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Kimberly Dawn Shumate. Mr. Shumate retired from the NC Department of Transportation in 1996 after 30 years of service, after his retirement he operated Shumate Grading until 2010. He was always happy running any type of heavy equipment. Johnny was also a part owner in Riverside Store in Crumpler. He was a member of Healing Springs Baptist Church. He loved watching NASCAR, UNC Tarheels and the Dallas Cowboys. His three grandchildren were a great source of joy for Johnny.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 11:00 am at Healing Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Kevin Jones, Rev. Dean Watson. Burial will follow in Healing Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Shumate is survived by: wife, Charlotte Roark Shumate, one daughter, Kathy Spease & husband Darin of Concord, Sister, Shelby Greer of Sparta, three grandchildren, Mason Spease, Morgan Spease, Kasey Spease; also surviving are two nieces and two nephews.
