Mrs. Hazel Blanche Testerman Roark age 93, of West Jefferson, died on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Margate Health and Rehab Center. Mrs. Roark was born on November 17, 1921 in Ashe County to Avery and Maggie Jones Testerman. Mrs. Roark was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, James Kelly Roark, infant daughter, Mable Christine Roark, six brothers, Eugene Testerman, Jack Testerman, Carl Testerman, Jones Testerman, Paul Testerman, Gwyn Testerman, granddaughter, Amy Arnold, and son in-law, James Delmer Arnold. Mrs. Roark and her husband lived in East Cleveland, Ohio from 1943-1972, during that time she worked for Phil-Mar Industries. In 1972 they returned to Ashe County and she worked for Phoenix Chair Company for 13 years, later retiring from Thomasville Furniture. She was a member of Trout Union Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until she was unable to attend due to her health. Her favorite time of year was Christmas because she enjoyed decorating and displaying her Christmas village for others to enjoy. Mrs. Roark enjoyed crocheting, cooking, traveling, and working in her yard. She had a kind spirit, always putting others before herself.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Ken Furches and Rev. David Blackburn. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Roark is survived by: one son, James Melvin Roark & wife Linda of Kettering, OH, two daughters, Barbara Arnold of Boone, Paula Perry and husband Lamon of West Jefferson, four sisters, Reba Rash of Creston, Helen Roark of West Jefferson, Anna Lee Goss of Jefferson, Gladys Conley of Charlotte, brother, Virgil Testerman of DE, and uncle, Hugh Testerman of Crumpler. Three grandchildren, Lesley Weber & husband David of Missouri, Kelly Joe Perry & wife Danielle of Millers Creek, Jared Perry & wife April of Kingsland, GA, two step-granddaughters, Lisa Flood & husband Wayne of Richmond, VA, Kimberly Williams of Dayton, OH, seven great-grandchildren, Megan Weber, Whitney Weber, Kailey Perry, Karlie Perry, Sydney Perry, Cameron Flood and Carter Williams several nieces and nephews also survive.
