Elbert Lee Dancy

Mr. Elbert Lee Dancy, age 77 of West Jefferson died on Monday, September 7, 2015 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone. Mr. Dancy was born on August 15, 1938 in Alleghany County, NC to Millard and Hester Cleary Dancy. Mr. Dancy was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Goldie Gay Latham Dancy, granddaughter, Angela Marie Dancy, brothers, Sam Dancy, Ray Dancy, Bill Dancy and Roy Dancy, sisters, Vergie Taylor and Mae Hash. Mr. Dancy attended Flat Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed springtime, gospel music, being outside, going to church, and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Joey McClure and Rev. Tommy Dollar. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm on Friday, September 11, 2015 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Dancy is survived by: Son, Johnny Dancy and wife Debbie of West Jefferson; Brothers, Robert Dancy of West Jefferson and Dale Dancy of Tennessee; Sister, Myrtle Shatley of West Jefferson and Linda Weaver of Hudson; Special Friend, Ina Jean Ashley; Granddaughter, Tabitha Dancy Reed and husband Aaron; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family respectfully requests no food or flowers please. Memorials may be made to the Flat Grove Baptist Church Building Fund.

The family is meeting at the home of his son at 609 Saddle Gap Road in West Jefferson.
